Women occupy less than 24% of tech roles at some of the largest tech-related companies, such as Google, Intel, Apple, Microsoft, Twitter, and Facebook (Wired Magazine, Confidence, Coding, and the Gender Gap). In an attempt to be recognized for the core essence of her new media work rather than her gender, Uma Oswald developed the virtual persona, Trolls and Treason, a moniker that leaves no recognition of sex.
Uma Oswald was born in Seattle, Washington, and currently lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She works under the virtual persona, Trolls and Treason, which she developed her sophomore year of college. She attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she studied interdisciplinary mediums. Uma graduated in August 2020 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, emphasis in Film, Video, and New Media. Her work was shown in a solo exhibition, "Metamorpho: Non Compos Mentis", at Espresso Royale Café in Minneapolis, Minnesota (2016). In 2018, she received a grant to install nineteen of her works at the Institute for Translational Research in Children's Mental Health at the University of Minnesota, which were installed indefinitely in 2019. |
